SaturdayReads-WhatWouldGwynethDo

I made a big mistake at work this week. I rushed through something and sent the wrong thing to the wrong person and for a few very stressful hours, I was in knots over it. My stomach was so tied up I could barely eat, my mind raced to all the worst-case scenarios, and I sat there practically paralyzed with worry about something that was nothing more or less than my own fuck up. It all worked out ok in the end, thankfully, but it was an overdue reminder to slow down, focus, pay attention to what I am doing…and that we all mistakes. It also served as a very good precursor to the long weekend, which suddenly felt like a true necessity.

Here are some of my favorite finds from the week:

These stunning photographs from a mom of 10 (!).

Ask an Actual Millennial. A good reminder that I am really old.

Model Moms. A visual history.

Such a sweet story. I often worry (ahead of time, obviously…it’s the best way) about raising a tween/teen in today’s seemingly careless society where bullying and hurt tend to make the headlines most. This puts my mind (semi) at ease.

The 5 Love Languages. A good read for old married couples like us. Need to read more.

And finally, a pep talk from Kid President to you. Because he is right: “We were made to be awesome.” Even when we make mistakes.

Have a great long weekend!

Those slow the hell down warnings for me usually come in the form of an injury—stubbed toe, bloody gash etc, done in the presence of my husband. I totally get this. Glad it worked out and grateful for the raft of links. Off to read! Enjoy the long weekend if you can.

Thank you! That often happens to me as well – this time, I wish it had been a physical lapse and not a mental one. But crisis averted…as always 😉

    Hi Raluca.
I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your blog. I’m a primary school teacher from Sydney, and while our lives are quite different I see lots of parallels. I enjoy reading your blog on those slower mornings when I can take 5 minutes for myself. I resist the urge to feel envious of what appears to be your very glamorous existence because I know from experience that every working mum has to juggle and sacrifice. Having said that, my job is a far cry from cocktails in California with clients. More like tantrums and paint stains in kindergarten. But I love that I can live vicariously and be inspired to live a bit more glam.

Melinda – thank you so much for your kind comment and for taking the time to stop by my little site. Trust me when I tell you that my life is definitely not filled with glamour of any sort, but it’s a happy one and I love that sharing bits and pieces of it brings you some inspiration thousands of miles away. 🙂 So appreciate you sharing your thoughts!
