SpringCleaningStyle-WhatWouldGwynethDo

Even though it’s a few weeks away, it feels like the first weekend of Spring is upon us with the longer days and warmer temperatures that have settled in. Which naturally means we are all going to spend some time in the coming days and weeks Spring cleaning and getting the home (and the mind) clear and clean for the months ahead. Right? Besides the obvious and somewhat boring must-dos – a Goodwill run, changing out your smoke alarm batteries, cleaning out the playroom – you should use this change in season to bring a change of heart to your home as well. Here’s how:

Dust off that green thumb – pick out some new plants for your home or spruce up your space with an assortment of succulents which are fairly low-maintenance and lovely. Shop Pigment‘s in-store and online Plant Lab has everything you need.

Get inspired in the kitchen – cooking seasonally is a great way to keep your culinary skills sharp and your palate peaked. Pick up a new cookbook that brings the fresh flavors of Spring to life and add some new recipes to your lineup for the months ahead. Bountiful: Recipes Inspired by Our Garden is at the top of my wish list and is certain to give my kitchen (and my mind) a renewed perspective for the season.

Try out some new towels – stocking up on fresh towels for the bath and the kitchen is an easy way to inject a sense of cleanliness and order in your home. I love these Lapiz hand towels from Nine Space for the kitchen in light, airy shades of grey and light pink to replace the darker ones I have been using all Winter.

New candles for the new season – I love warm, musky scents like vanilla and amber during the cooler Winter months but when it comes to Spring and Summer, I like to lighten things up. Switch out your candles for something floral or citrusy like Pommes Frites Candle Co’s Lavender or Diptyque’s Muguet (French for lily of the valley).

Perk up your pillows – swapping out your throw pillows for lighter colors is a simple, stylish update anyone can do. Pick linen and cotton over heavy fabrics like velvet or suede and choose a vibrant color or pattern that screams Spring. I love these Starburst pillows from West Elm, especially in the ivory and pale blue.

Enjoy that extra hour of daylight – we certainly have been. Bike rides after diner, extra bedtime stories before it gets dark, a welcome glimpse of the warm months and long days that lie ahead. And a perfect time to renew and rejuvenate our home.

Hello Spring!
