Must-Read: Sister, Mother, Husband, Dog, Etc.

2013 October 1

“Having it all are moments in life when you suspend judgment. It’s when I attain that elusive thing called peace of mind.”

This excerpt from Delia Ephron’s “Sister Mother Husband Dog: Etc.” in the New York Times a few weeks back has really stuck with me.

Delia, sister of the late great Nora Ephron, opens her piece talking about her favorite bakery in Manhattan and in all the delicious details that follow brings forth this point:

“To me, having it all — if one wants to define it at all — is the magical time when what you want and what you have match up. Like an eclipse…It might be a fleeting moment — drinking a cup of coffee on a Sunday morning when the light is especially bright. It might also be a few undisturbed hours with a novel I’m in love with, a three-hour lunch with my best friend, reading “Goodnight Moon” to a child, watching a Nadal-Federer match.”

In this age of leaning in and juggling and striving for more, more, more…I hope you can find that you have it “all” in some everyday moments today.

Happy Tuesday.

Thanks. I love this post. I love thinking about ‘simplicity’ and how nice it is 🙂
