A Guide to Stuffing That Stocking

Good things come in small packages and this time of year is no exception. I love, love, love stockings. The little treasures that come inside are a perfect highlight on the happiest day of the year. So here are my petite picks for this year’s stuffing tradition – all under $15:

No girl can ever have too many lip glosses (seriously, check your purses – I am sure there are 2-3 in each). This trio from Jane is affordable ($9.99) and if you pick the “Friends of Jane” pink collection, you’ll be supporting She’s the First, a fabulous organization dedicated to the empowerment and education of young girls around the world. Now that’s merry.

For the man in your life – take him a step up from Gillette with Kiehl’s Ultimate Brushless Shave Cream (starting at only $9.00). Inject a dash of luxe into his daily routine.

This is the perfect time of year to curl up in front of the fireplace and the small screen. Target has more than 300 DVD titles available online for under $14. My pick for your sister? Sex and the City: The Movie (the FIRST movie). Even if she has seen it, she can see it again. And again. And again.

These Emi-Jay hair ties have evolved the hair elastic market in a major way. Pick a set of five like this for $11.99 or find individual ties sold in local boutiques for as little as $2 each.

Remember that girl with three lip glosses in each purse? She has a wall of nail polishes in her medicine cabinet, too. And she will love finding more in her stocking. Gift her a fun hue for New Year’s and if you’re feeling particularly generous, throw in a gift card for a mani as well.

For that person in your life who still likes to put pen to paper: Moleskine has a cult following for a reason and their stylish notepads are the perfect place for jotting down those New Year’s resolutions.

A stocking isn’t a stocking without some sweetness inside. These are my favorite chocolates to give to grown ups.

I’ve written about these StickyGram magnets before and I can’t help but do it again. Pick your favorite Instagram pics and turn them into instant magnetic memories for family members for just $14.99.

I love a good hand cream, it’s such an affordable beauty luxury and especially useful this time of year when skin is dry and parched. This Aveda Hand Relief is a long-time favorite I have found in my stocking many times throughout the years (note to husband: it would be a shame to break tradition at this point, don’t you think??). Only $8.50 for a small tube and it goes a long way, trust me.

My favorite chocolates to give to kids. These European chocolate eggs are my kids’ favorites on special holidays partially for the delicious, thin chocolate shell and even moreso for the surprise toy inside. Reminds me of my own childhood in so many ways – and really, isn’t that what the season is all about? You don’t have to hop the pond, either. Stock up at your nearest Cost Plus World Market.

Last but not least, a gift card. $15 and less won’t get you much in most places, but it can buy you the world on iTunes. These gift cards are a go-to staple for a reason – fits any size, any gender, any age.

Happy stocking stuffing, friends!

*Disclaimer: Jane Cosmetics is a client I do work with. I truly do love their lip glosses and the choice to feature them here was entirely my own, I was not compensated in any way for this mention.*

Julia, are you serious?!! I never saw the 2nd movie and I’m not sure I missed much, but the first! The first movie is ridiculous. The marriages/relationships, the clothes, New York and best of all the friendship between the four girls! Have to see it. Tonight. Go.

Thank you for all the great stocking/gift ideas! Didn’t even think about Cost World Plus and they have a ton. The instagram magnet would be great to put sisters’ kid pictures on for my parent’s oven since their stinking stainless steel fridge doensn’t take magnets. So annoying.

omg. Those chocolate eggs! I totally forgot about those. See, this is why I read your blog!

P.S. Liz, yes, stainless steel fridges are so annoying for that very reason. I’ve often thought about that – how funny, but the oven is a great idea!
