A Day Forever Marked
Another tragic day to mark on the calendar here in America – December 14, 2012.
Only 11 days before Christmas.
Do you think those kids opened their advent calendars this morning?
Do you think their moms gave them an extra long hug at drop-off?
Do you think they had sweet dreams last night?
Do you think they had written their letters to Santa?
I am thousands of miles from Connecticut.
But I am a mother of a little girl sitting in her kindergarten class right now, eating her pizza Friday lunch, oblivious to anything outside the walls of that precious school, nothing but a safe haven to her, and all the amazing treasures and gifts it has given to her.
And because of that, I mourn.

I too have a daughter in kindergarten today and I am wanting to go and pick her just to give her a hug. What a terrible tragedy for those families.
This horrible thing that happened makes me so mad and my heart breaks for those parents and families involved. I can only pray to move forward.
Thank you for this post, it was perfect.
Couldn’t agree more. I’ve spent the morning alternating between blinding tears, and blinding rage. Tragedy doesn’t begin to describe it.
This is just crushing
Mother of a kindergartener too. I want to do nothing today except hold her. Perfect post, thank you.
R, you have a such beautiful way with words. Poignant and heartbreaking.
Beautifully written about a horrible thing. I, too, am a mother and I just want to hold my girls and never let go.
