Mama Muse – Jennifer Meyer

2012 November 1

A few years ago when we were touring a preschool for Little D in Santa Monica along with throngs of other westside parents looking for the perfect balance of academics, creativity, organic snacks and discipline, Toby Maguire and his wife Jennifer Meyer were doing the same.

I should have been intimidated, but I wasn’t.

They just seemed like another regular young couple looking for the best the city had to offer for their daughter…oh, and a paparazzi-free drop-off area, of course.

Since then, I have been following Meyer’s ascent as a respected jewelry designer, stylish young mom, entrepreneur and business woman, and now, finalist in this year’s Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund competition.

Despite her seemingly lavish upbringing (her father is Universal Studios executive Ron Meyer), she seems to lead a decidedly down-to-earth life. Her style is simple and signature – long, flowing locks that either hang free or get scooped into a simple bun. A bohemian-inspired wardrobe that accents her delicate jewelry designs perfectly. And a hands-on approach to her two young kids that seems like anything but a photo opp.

She is a young woman who could have easily stood in the shadows of the two men in her life (her father and her husband) and would have been quite happy there, I imagine, but chose to shine on her own.

An inspiration to us mamas everywhere.

I love your stories about working mothers! I think I’ve said that before, but I’m obsessed with reading about how they got where they are and I’m so inspired. I read the Q&A and just fell in love with Jennifer ‘s story and her jewelry so thank you for that this morning!
