The Painted Ladies and Planning Ahead

I had the good fortune of heading up to San Francisco for two days of meetings earlier this week. I love that city. It has the pulse and culture of big city living, but wrapped up in a little, easy to navigate jewel box.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have much time for eating, shopping and climbing its hilly streets this time, but it left me longing to bring my little family up there sooner than later for a long weekend away.

Which got me thinking…

No time like the present to start working on number three on my New Year’s resolutions list and since number one is still very much a factor, I am going to try to focus on some domestic getaways that will score on the fun factor without breaking the bank (Maui will happen, it just might not happen THIS year…)

I am all about making lists these days to hold myself accountable for all the goals and dreams running through my mind, so here goes…some of the top cities I hope to eventually check out en famille (some for the first time, some not):

Palm Springs – we go often, and we hope to keep it up. I love the vibe there and how easy it is to escape on a moment’s notice. When we are solo, we like to stay here. With the kids, we like to stay here.

Austin – I feel like I need to go there now before the hipster bubble grows far too big. Would ask this local lady for her personal recommendations on where to go and what to do.

Chicago – a Facebook friend recently deemed it “the London of North America.” I have never been and think that’s a shame. Would eat this.

Scottsdale – we have been. We have braved the heat. And we really enjoyed it. You can stay in fabulous, kid-friendly resorts for outstanding prices, if you book at the right time.

Ojai – not sure if this is truly a kid-friendly option, so maybe it will move over to our “sans kids” getaway list (yep, there’s one of those, too.) But when we go, we will stay here.

Whistler – not “domestic” to most of you, but given our Canadian blood, it’s a must. I am embarrassed to say I have never been (skater, I mean snowboarder, hubs has, of course) and I am dying to book our next family snow trip there. I would find time to go here.

So there you have it. My mini bucket list. Now that it’s out there in the universe, I better get back to work so I can start paying for it…

We are all about the tiny trips- esp if it means leaving the kids for a few days and truly having a getaway! (Although we had a lovely Palm springs trip w/kids tihs summer in the 117 degree heat!)

We’re escaping to San Francisco for my birthday weekend in February and I am already making my list of must-do’s (most involve eating, of course). Also on my mini-trip list- Austin, Portland again, Paso Robles…

I like your list for many reasons! It’s doable and attainable! I’ve only been to Chicago once but we had an amazing trip. The food there is fantastic! Ojai is big on my list too, really big, there’s just the kid free part that I don’t really know how to handle.
