Finding the Great

Happy Monday, friends.

I hope your Mother’s Day weekend was filled with love and hugs and homemade cards and flowers.

Mine was, and along with it, came a much-needed dose of perspective.

You see, I am a type-A, give it 100%, do everything to the best of my ability kind of girl. At home, at work, even at play. I like to know that everything I put my time and effort and heart into is getting all of me, at any given moment.

And that it’s going to be great.

Really, really great.

And with that, you can probably guess where this post is going. This space is going on a little hiatus. It may be for weeks, it may be for a month, it may be for a few…I don’t really know the parameters of it quite yet, but I do know that it was time to make it official rather than giving you (and myself) the ongoing impression that my lack of activity and passion here was just an oversight and not an intentional shift. Because it is intentional.

I started this space many years ago as a vehicle for my writing. And some really good writing has come out of it, in my humble opinion. But somewhere along the way, it has also increasingly become about stats and followers and meaningless headlines and posts to grab interest, eyeballs, numbers. Yes, I wanted those numbers because of the writing – because that meant I had actual readers – but the purpose has kept zigging and zagging and leaving me lost.

Lately, I have had so much going on in my little world that feeling lost about anything simply isn’t going to work. Everything I touch right now has to feel right and fulfilling and exciting and sincere. I just don’t have the time or the headspace to live a lukewarm life. Nor do you have the time to read it, and I respect your time just as much as mine.

So for now, I am taking a little pause from this space.

The content I have built will stay right here for easy reference, because I am proud of it and I love to go back in my archives (especially the “Musings“) and read through it all. I am going to keep writing and stock piling new pieces and one day soon, I would love to turn them into a book of some sort. I don’t know what that looks like either, but I will do it when I know it will be the best it can be. I will still share bits and pieces of life and things that I love on social media so you can always find me there. And if you want to get in touch about anything, I am always just an email away.

When I am back, I hope it’s better than ever.

I hope it’s really, really great.

And I hope some of you will still be there to enjoy it.

But in the meantime, thank you to those of you who have been reading and writing and sharing and liking. Thank you for taking time out of your day to spend a little of it with me. Thank you for sending me words of encouragement and personal stories of motherhood and career and balance and inner beauty along the way.

And most of all, thank you for allowing me to take this little pause to find the great.

Raluca xx

Awww, sad that I won’t be reading you regularly, but happy that you know what makes you happy, and having the guts to do it. Take care.

I know EXACTLY how you’re feeling right now. I think it’s been over a year now that I haven’t posted consistently. Even though I miss posting, I know that I made the right decision by going with my heart which was simply not in it anymore. Your writing will be missed, but enjoy this time. xo

I’m sad to see you go but wish you only the best during this shift in your life. You actually gave me really great advice and encouragement when my world was shifting about a year ago. Your story inspired me and gave me the confidence to leave the corporate world behind to start my own business and live more presently with my two little ones (and myself). So far it’s been a great success – so thank you!
    Enjoy.

What a great post. I have really enjoyed your blog and posts and most of all, your writing.
You have an amazing talent with words, sentences and the way you articulate your thoughts…
You also have great ideas around fashion/ food/ baking/ taste in general. (In my opinion).
Good for you for being real with yourself. I have a similar A type personality and have learned in the past 6 months a little bit about not bring pulled in too many directions, while not really living! I am also a Taurus – turned 40 on Mother’s Day and I say good for you for at 37 for making the best choices for you.
I do hope you write a book – you have a lot to contribute in an elegant, expressive, interesting way.
All the best with everything in your life.
    Best wishes from Toronto!
    Erin 🙂

I found your blog about four years ago. In an effort to find my son the perfect nap mat or lunch box or something of that nature, I discovered the world of blogs by women who are also moms. And from there on out, I switched up my 20 mins a day of celebrity gossip websites in an effort to find a source of kinship and listen to voices similar to my own. In some ways, I considered it proof that I was finally adult.
You see I work in a very high stress environment surrounded by a lot of 20 somethings. Also, most of my nearest and dearest friends had moved away (either to the suburbs or far off lands) and I was feeling very lonely. In addition, none of those dear friends had kids and finding my “new best friends” at preschool drop off seemed like a task that I didn’t want to dip my toe into (I remember a great blog post you wrote about a similar experience).
I discovered cooking right when you were discovering the joy of cooking. Like with your dad, I had a grandmother who was an amazing cook and I never imagined that I would venture to follow in her footsteps.
I tried your menu planning idea and it changed both my mindset and pocketbook.
I ate up your tidbits about your children and saw parallels in my journey. When I refuse to sign up for yet another weekend activity in an effort to keep at least one day of week “lazy with no obligations,” I think of you.
I stole your pinterest gift ideas.
My point being that I just wanted you to know how much you touch other people out there and your blog has really made a difference. For me, each post is like a quick text from a friend. Often receiving them at a point in my day when I just need a smile and a break to get through.
But I totally understand needing to take a step back. Do what is best for you in effort to be at your best. But I do hope that no matter what happens with the blog, you keep writing. And even pursue that book idea. You are a very talented writer. With an amazing voice.

I’ll really, truly miss your voice. Yours is one that never fails to resonate with me. Don’t be gone too long!

Will miss your writing but honor your decision and am so in support of making intentional moves and decisions. Brava. xox

I will miss your voice but I love that you are listening to the voice inside. We tend to ignore these things as women and then regret. Looking forward to what is ahead on this site and know that you are already great!! See you soon.

Raluca you will be missed like crazy. Your blog was always a favorite & I hope you pick it up again someday soon. xo

I am always impressed when people act through mindfulness and integrity. In a world where social media and outer appearances often push people to the limits of illusion, it was always refreshing to read your posts about real life stories of being a working mom with two kids and everything that entails—for real. Your hiatus is just another refreshing dose of real and bravo for having the courage to take a step back–and telling us about it. I am not a blog reader–ain’t got no time for that—but when I stumbled on WWGD over a year ago, I couldn’t resist coming back for its mix-mash of life-stuff and no nonsense writing. It was nice to read about someone I could (finally) relate to! Thank you for sharing your stories, your array of interests and your thought-provoking decisions—just like this one. I’ll certainly keep coming to read past posts and I’ll certainly come back if and when you do. Enjoy this decision, no matter how long it’s for and be well. Une lectrice de Montréal.

I can’t remember how I stumbled upon your blog, but I was immediately hooked by your writing and insightful reflections. I especially *loved* your working mother series (and still read the archives for inspiration) and your menu plans. I’ll miss the blog for now but trust that this is the best decision for you!

I also remember about how I stumbled on your blog and I also loved your working mother series. If you feel it is time for a break, take it. Hopefully, it will bring you back recharged with new missions and stories to tell us about.

    Raluca,

There are so many things I love about what you write about, so much great content! I think in your case, that sometimes it’s not the content, it’s your style of writing! With honesty and humor, sarcasm and much more. I love it so much and I hope to see your writing and perspective again soon.

I hope that while you are on hiatus that you still see this. I totally get all of it. As a blogger, we lose sight of what is important. I recently started a second site and while I love watching my GA numbers (and seeing them increase) I have to remind myself daily that it’s not about the numbers or the money. I have a different goal for this new site and while I like seeing numbers increase (because that means someone is reading), it has a different meaning. Hugs to you and I hope you find your way here or somewhere else where we can find you! 🙂

I totally get what you are talking about. I also look forward to seeing what you have to say in the (hopefully) not too distant future.

I also recently took a blogging hiatus and it was the best thing I ever did. When i came back i felt stronger and that my content was a lot better for it. Enjoy your time out.
