Grey Is Not A Color

GreyIsNotAColor-WhatWouldGwynethDo

I had dinner with a friend the other night and she looked stunning in a pretty teal top that highlighted her dark brown hair and features. I sighed. I was wearing my usual uniform of black, layered with black, topped off with a little beige. She looked so pretty and vibrant and while I felt chic (ish), my mono look suddenly felt majorly boring.

I have had cold feet about color for a while now and I don’t know where it comes from. Everything I buy is black, white, grey or navy. Beige may creep in here and there and I do have that one dark eggplant t-shirt that I love…but for the most part, chambray is considered bright in my world.

Everything I Pin tends to fall into the same category – simple, classic, cool…but colorless.

Well, the teal top has inspired me to try again.

This Spring, I vow to add three new items to my wardrobe that are bright, colorful and bold.

That’s a promise. It can be solids, patterns or prints. As long as it isn’t black, white, grey or navy. Here are some options that have me intrigued – will let you know what actually makes the cut in my closet:

MadewellLatticework-WhatWouldGwynethDoThis Madewell dress comes in white and black, but the red twine looks like a darling (and daring) option to add to my wardrobe for Spring. I love it with that taupe bag, too. The safety of taupe…ha ha.

Equipment-WhatWouldGwynethDoThis Equipment cashmere crew in magenta is anything but basic and I kind of love it. Pink is on-trend this season and this is certainly a bold way to try it on.

Yellow. A lofty goal, I know. But this French Connection jumper would look so cute paired with a collared shirt (as shown) and a full skirt…maybe in chambray or white. 😉

It may even get this basic black girl to see the light.

You may be on to something with this color challenge. I always joke that my wardrobe makes me look like a big bruise…black, grey, navy, a little dark green.

I vote for the dress! So cute, and perfect for SoCal summer. I definitely get stuck in neutral ruts and feel so much better when I throw on some color and hit the town – with a neutral sweater or accessories, of course. A black or navy cardigan is my adult safety blanket :0)

I feel you. I wear so much black, gray and navy!! I love that Madewell dress, though.
