A Thought For Your Monday

WhatWouldGwynethDo

This Pinterest find (as so many of them do) smacked me right in the face this past week.

It’s short, you guys. Life is short. You need to get out there, find your passions, dream your dreams, look beyond the every day because the extraordinary is out there.

I am not saying quit your job and move to Paris (though that sounds nice). I am a realist. And for most of us, it’s not realistic to drop everything and be a dreamer. But we can take little baby dream steps in the meantime.

A few days ago, I enrolled for a floral workshop with Design Love Fest and Moon Canyon in June. I have wanted to take a flower arranging workshop forever but I could never seem to justify the investment in money or time to do it. Until now. It’s really about investing in myself, in something I have always been curious about, in a new creative outlet that I may just love.

We also booked our 10-year anniversary trip to Hawaii in August. This was a big one because (again) it inevitably came with a big price tag and there are a million and one other things we should probably spend money on instead of a week in paradise making memories with our little family in the sun. Or is there?

I am submitting an essay to Elle Magazine. It’s part of a reader contest and my first inclination was to shy away from it because there are probably thousands of great Elle readers with amazing personal stories and tribulations who can write circles around me…but you know what? It isn’t about their circle. It’s about my line.

I don’t want to stare at that line and say I should have or I would have or I could have.

I want to do. Even if it’s in baby steps.

I hope you will, too.

Have a great Monday. xx

Baby step dreams is a great way to phrase it! I need to work on this more, because as a realist myself, I find it very easy to tell myself no. Happy Monday to you as well 🙂

good for you – the workshop, the trip, the submission to elle!

it’s so easy to let my interests and personal priorities get put on the back burner… anytime i make even just a little shift to bring them to the forefront i’m reminded that it’s almost always me holding them back in the first place.

great post for a monday morning!

Isn’t it funny how encouraging we are of others when they are staring at the line and wondering if they should do it? But when it comes to ourselves …. we let ourselves off the hook almost every time. Love that you are doing a floral workshop, feeling quite inspired by that …. heads off to look for that pottery class I’ve been debating for years ….

Oh, yes! I’m SO glad you’re submitting. SO glad you’re arranging. SO glad you’re traveling. And so glad you shared. H and I are committing to our family trip to my 2nd homeland of Austria this week – because I neeeeeeed to go – despite the price tag. I will write this week. And I am spending this weekend with girlfriends from the most amazing different parts of my life. This is the week of ME! Of US!
