A Friday Night Ritual

2014 January 17

Remember when your Friday nights meant a high heel, a red lip, a late dinner reservation and watching the Saturday sun rise?

Yeah. Me, neither.

My Friday nights are decidedly more low-key nowadays and I am totally fine with that. They usually entail a good meal at home (or on the early side in a restaurant), a few glasses of wine, a mental detox from the day that just ended and a little at-home beauty ritual. I love to take my time to unwind from a long week, do a face mask, take a nice bath, do a little body scrub, moisturize the heck out of everything…and relax.

Here are my favorite picks for an at-home night of beauty and a peek at my Friday night ritual:

(above) Face masks:

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask – deep cleansing is right. This mask definitely feels like it’s getting down deep. I use it once or twice per month when I need to get the job done.

Mario Badescu Strawberry Tonic Mask – this clay mask is packed with alpha-hydroxy to absorb oil and dirt but is surprisingly soothing at the same time.

SW Basics Hibiscus Mask – hibiscus, French green clay and organic lavender make up this all-natural must-have. And it’s a fun color of pink that adds a little punch to your face mask ritual.

Epsom salts – good old fashioned epsom salts are said to work wonders to draw toxins out of the body and reduce stress. I use about two cups under hot running water and have read that you should allow 40 minutes for a proper bath: the first 20 to remove toxins from the body and the second 20 to absorb the minerals in the water. Clear your calendar, ladies.

Aura Cacia Lavender Bubble Bath – I like a lot of lavender and a lot of bubbles so this affordable, all-natural formula is my go-to. I also use it on my littles because it’s so gentle and soothing.

Laura Mercier Almond Coconut Honey Bath – when you’ve had a particularly long week, this is the ultimate indulgence. It smells like heaven and leaves you feeling perfectly pampered.

Origins Ginger Body Scrub – this is one of my favorite scents for the body (the soufflé cream is heavenly) and the scrub leaves your skin feeling so soft, you don’t need any lotion afterwards.

L’Occitane Verbena Salt Scrub – Mom always knows best. Mine bought me this one and it’s so good. The grains are coarse and more intense than the other options for a really thorough exfoliation and it comes with a cute little wooden spoon for application. Warning: it will leave your tub very slippery.

Kiehl’s Coriander Scrub – another one of my favorite scents in scrub form. This one is much more gentle and I typically use it daily in the shower but sometimes my Friday night ritual just calls for that amazing coriander scent that Kiehl’s does best.

RODIN olio lusso body oil  – this is a luxe oil treatment that smells of jasmine and leaves you feeling silky and oh so soft. I prefer to use it at night so it can soak into my skin and not anywhere on my clothes.

Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Body Butter – clearly I am a Kiehl’s devotee and this product is a big reason why. The smell is intoxicating and warm, the cream is rich and thick and it leaves your skin feeling so soft and smooth…it’s perfection.

The Honest Company body oil – not just for the littles! I started swiping this body oil for myself shortly after I started using it for my kids (my other Honest Co. faves can be found here). It’s light, moisturizing and affordable so we go through a ton of it and keep going back for more.

Hope you found a little something to indulge in – and that you have a nice, relaxing start to your weekend.

Thanks, as always, for reading!
