My Favorite Blogs – Hey Natalie Jean
Here is the thing about deciding to blog. It’s daunting and inspiring and scary…before you even log on to type a word. Then once you do, you start to dive into this blog world and find so many people doing it and it becomes even more daunting and inspiring and scary. That person is a better writer than me. This one has nicer photos. She has a bigger following. Her logo is cooler. But you just keep on writing and sharing and commenting and reading because somehow you just know you’re meant to be a part of it. Scary or not.
I don’t remember how I first came across Natalie’s blog (now Hey Natalie Jean, formerly Nat The Fat Rat) but I know it has been one of my absolute favorites (if not my actual favorite) ever since.
She shares bits and pieces about her life in New York City with her husband and young son, Huck. She does some fashion, beauty and lifestyle stuff that is usually pretty on-point, even when it’s not necessarily my personal style. And she gives me a serious case of hair envy with almost every post.
But it’s the writing that keeps me there.
Natalie has this voice that is at once pure honesty and pure wit. She writes how I imagine she talks over coffee with girlfriends, which is a style I love and admire. She just lets it flow and it flows so well, it seems effortless. She shares trials and tribulations (often tied to her efforts to conceive again and more recently, to her PMDD diagnosis) from such a thoughtful place that you want to go there with her and hold her hand through it. She writes with a simple eloquence that is solid, easy to read and relatable. And the best part is that all that brilliant writing has landed her a deal for her first book, which she is working on now.
Thank you, Natalie for sharing so openly and with such a candid, meaningful voice. You’ve inspired me to be a better writer on so many levels. And I cannot wait to read the book.
