So we are heading to New York early next month to celebrate my 35th birthday, sans kids. Some dear friends from Montreal are driving down to meet us and my sister will be there and excited is an understatement.

One of my besties who is joining us sent over this awesome web site started by a young couple from Australia who are living in NYC and sharing their favorite places to eat, shop, drink and everything, at a glance.

I have been to New York numerous times and spent a few months living there in 2001, but there are always so many new places to discover and this site will definitely be bookmarked as I pull together my list of things to-do.

We are staying at the Soho Grand and my birthday dinner is booked at Cole’s. A trip to the Mario Badescu day spa is on the agenda, as are stops at ABC (mainly for inspiration, I love pretty things), Momofuku (never been), Eataly (dreaming of their gelato and rooftop patio), the Chelsea Market (never been), Fish’s Eddy (fun, affordable finds for the home) and of course, all the way uptown to LadurĂ©e (my mom only agreed to watch the kids if I brought her back macarons).

I know it sounds crazy, but I often have a hard time shopping in New York…I find everything to either be a) exorbitantly out of my budget or b) something I can find in Los Angeles. So clearly, I am doing it wrong. If you have any suggestions or favorite fashion finds, please share in the comments!

Have a great weekend ~

oh no. this is terrible. a terribly wonderful amazing way to spend your 35th! pardon me whilst i frantically search my notes and posts of NYC. miss it. only a weekend? how to get it all in. also, thanks for sharing the site! first idea: can you spare some time to visit the Museum at FIT? it’s a nice walk from chelsea market (the bean even did it, work up an appetite for brownies and ice cream), and a pretty amazing gem.

No better place to celebrate! But obviously, I’m biased.

If you head to Chelsea Market and it’s nice out, definitely walk the High Line, it’s so beautiful and a great people watching spot. When it comes to Momofuku, I prefer Ssam Bar to Noodle Bar and they have a great cocktail program too. When you come uptown to Laduree, you might want to swing by Yumi Kim for shopping (not sure they have that in LA), some Francois Payard macarons for comparison, and Maison Kayser for some for reals French baguette.

For other shopping that you might not have on the Left Coast: Uniqlo, Massimo Dutti (the Zara flagship is pretty awesome too), Topshop, Opening Ceremony, Steven Alan.

Sounds like you have a packed agenda, otherwise I’d suggest meeting up!

Do not miss Levain Bakery. Seriously. Best cookies in the universe.

Eeee, I’m excited for you! Now that’s the way you celebrate 35 years of living. I’m going to New York in June, so I’ll be checking back here for your must-sees. Recap, pretty please.
