Swim Suit Season…Don’t Panic

I know it’s only March and that in most of the country, swim suit season is the last thing on your winter-weary minds but I learned a long time ago that if you wait until the temperature rises to start shopping, you will be left with nothing but a whole lot of XXL and XXS options to dive into.

So let’s talk about J. Crew’s options, shall we? Because I think they are pretty much perfect.

I was intrigued by their free shipping and free returns policy and then extra intrigued by their adorable little designs and then super extra intrigued when a Twitter friend says she swears by their suits and that the quality and fit is great and they last forever.

I was a Juicy Couture devotee because the designs are fun, but the quality is not great and they do not last forever. Hence me shopping for a whole new swim suit wardrobe for the season.

I like to have a strapless option in my arsenal for those rare days by the pool or at the beach when I can sit in somewhat peace and work on my tan…without any lines.

I love the dots on the top design and the ruching on the second.

Ruching has been a good friend to me over the years, it helps hide away little bumps and bulges without sacrificing style.

But then I also need something with straps (that doesn’t look like a Speedo) to keep me in check when I am chasing my littles around the pool or throwing diving toys or floating down a lazy river.

Love this jade green above and the classic glamour of the below.

And then there’s the two-piece.

I pretty much gave up on it after having Kai.

Sad, I know.

But I didn’t see myself feeling confident enough to rock one again after having two babies and loving brownies as much as I do.

Well, no time like the present to take on a challenge, don’t you think?

Let’s put down the brownies and pick that two-piece back up, mamas.

After all the work your abs have been through carrying children and working out and giving you so much stress, it’s about time they had a little fun in the sun.

A little cruise down the lazy river.

A little poolside pina colada.

And if not…there are always free returns 😉

I’m glad you posted this. My birthday is next week, the big 30:(. I was supposed to already look “swimsuit ready” but that didn’t happen. At least I still have a couple months until summer. What is the cost of average JCrew suit? I’m ok with spending a little more if it will last.

Check out the site, prices vary based on what you want…the ones I am loving are in the $100 range. We do a lot of swimming in SoCal during the summer, so I think it’s worth the investment for something you love and feel good in.

I’ve never been a fan of the two-piece. Even when I was “young and lean” I found it too revealing for my um… ample top. For years I looked frumpy or sporty (I am neither!) in various one-pieces or felt so shy in an ill fitting bikini until J Crew started shipping to Canada and changed my world! The shipping policies are not in effect on this side of the border but the product is well worth it, especially on sale! I wore my 2 faves through 2 pregnancies and still love them. Rushing is my friend! Thanks for reminding me, I think I’m due for a new one!

I’ve never thought about J.Crew for swim suits, but they have some cute stuff. I’m always wary about those tiny straps, though. They don’t quite work for DD’s. ;D

Take a look at the whole section, they have a few thicker strapped options I am eyeing as well 😉

I had my first baby last April, and my body is definitely NOT back in pre-pregnancy shape yet. But we’re going on vacation with some friends in June, and I need a swimsuit. After reading your post, I ordered a J.Crew one-piece with ruching in vivid jade: it arrived today, and it’s so perfect that I’m tempted to order it in several more colors! It fits like a glove, it’s flattering, and it supports my (still-nursing) boobs. Thank you so much for the recommendation! 🙂
