Hair Chop

HairChop-WhatWouldGwynethDo

So the most exciting thing about the Oscars for me this year was Giuliana Rancic’s chopped new do.

I have been struggling so much with my hair lately (i.e. it is in a top-knot almost every day). It is long ish (but not long enough to be Kardashian-esque), but has weird layers in it, it’s thick and unruly and while I want to call it boho chic inspired, it’s really more of a moppy mess.

Giuliana’s shoulder length cut felt fresh and free and fun and then when I was perusing my Pinterest beauty board for inspiration the other day, it turns out I have been pinning similar looks for months now while letting my hair grow out…clearly a sign.

So I think it’s time for a little change. My hair (with the exception of my bangs, it seems) tends to grow like weeds, so I never get really nervous about chopping it off – it will grow back.

I grabbed the pics above for inspiration. My texture is probably most similar to Gwyneth on the bottom left, but with the color of the top right. If I played up my natural curl (which I really should start doing), it would be similar to Ashley (Mary Kate?) Olsen in the middle. And I am kind of craving a sideswept bang a la Sofia’s on the top left again.

Whatever it is, it will be a mix of the above. And hopefully it will feel fresh and free and fun.

And hopefully it will also be better than the Oscars…shouldn’t be too hard 😉

I love that short, side swept bang look. I have think, curly hair so I can’t have it, but if I had your hair (or straight) that’s what I would do. Too cute!

Agreed. She looked beautiful! Whenever I feel like I need a change, the first thing I do is chop off my hair. I’ve done some extreme cuts (not that the styling was very outrageous, but I’ve cut off more than six inches of hair) and it’s amazing what can happen when you switch up a hairstyle.

I have wavy hair, so when I cut it too short, I feel like I have to straighten it each day. As much as I love the overall look, once it begins to grow out, it’s too much work to style it each day. It also damages my hair to have all of that heat on it at all times. I stick with medium lengths so that I can wear my hair straight or curly without much fuss. I’ve worn my hair wavy all week and it’s been so nice to be able to hope out of bed, scrunch in a little bit of gel, and run out of the house.

    Medium+texture=a good thing.
