Making My Monday

Well the weekend delivered, my friends. We spent a good chunk of Saturday afternoon parked on the beach and it was just heavenly after this rough winter we’ve had…ha ha. Seriously though, once your kids are past the whole eating sand thing, the beach is the perfect place for a young family. Skater hubs surfed, the kids occupied themselves for hours in the sand with buckets and rocks and shovels and I got to READ A MAGAZINE. As long as you bring snacks and there is a potty nearby, you can spend hours there, relatively stress-free. And we did.

And the week is off to a good start already and it’s not even 10am – here are a few things Making My Monday today:

Catch me if you can! I woke up to an email from a friend in NY who saw this here blog mentioned in the new issue of FOAM Magazine! It’s my first print mention and I couldn’t be more excited!

The inauguration. We never have TV on in the mornings but today was an exception. We tuned in to see the proceedings and it was so cool to see the kids’ reactions to everything:

“I want to do that.” – Little D (5yo) watching President Obama walk in.

“I think I am the First Lady of the United States.” – Little D

“Where’s Jay Z, mama?” – Kai (2yo).

Always nice to share a historical moment with the littles…I still think it’s amazing to watch this generation’s youth enjoy so much exposure to politics and (most) world issues.

House hunting. It’s official. I need change like all the time and the fact that we have been in this house for 2+ years is kind of amazing. We saw a home on the weekend that we really liked and are meeting with a realtor later this week to see if listing ours is a good move right now. I am basically already decorating the new house in my mind (no, not a glutton for punishment at all) so I really hope the meeting goes well!

Another new business meeting tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Finally, a quiet coffee date with a friend scheduled for Thursday. We are meeting right after drop off in the early morning to ensure we don’t let the day’s schedule rob us of some good girlfriend time and I think it’s a smart idea. If we don’t prioritize these things in life, who is going to do it for us, right? It certainly isn’t going to be my daughter…she is going to be busy running for President in 2045.

Happy Monday, friends ~

I would love to read your blog in ten years. You and your husband will hate each other, your kids will be brats, and you will hate your body! Then it might be interesting. There is nothing more annoying then someone who writes about how perfect there life is. Where is the GRIT!! That is what makes a writer. You still have a lot of life to live to get interesting. I have tried to read your blog but who cares about how perfect things are (perfect husband, kids, skinny jeans, the BEACH.) We get it!!!!!! If I am that delusional I will just read Fifty Shades of Grey.

Wow, thanks Venessa. My very first hate comment. Here’s the thing, though: the blog is called WhatWouldGwynethDo. It’s clearly not meant to be a gritty read and I don’t assume many people come here looking for one. It’s here to give a glimpse at the life of a working mom in Southern California who is trying to balance 1001 things every day and do it with a sense of humor and a sense of style. I am sure life will get more interesting in ten years and I hope to be so lucky to still be writing about it then. If you aren’t interested in reading – now or then – that’s totally fine. That’s the beauty of the blogosphere, there is more than enough to choose from. But I am willing to bet my husband and I won’t hate each other, my kids will still be awesome and I may hate my body…but I will be eating some damn good cookies in the process. In the meantime, thanks for your comment and I hope you find what you are looking for on some of the amazing blogs out there sharing it.

I was laughing so hard when I read the comment made by Ms. Sosa. I have been having a hard time with your blog lately. I am sorry to say that I agree with her. I am not trying to be a hater. It is just my opinion! Where are the recipes, recommendations, etc.

If the blog is that boring just find other sites. She has links on the right side of this page. I really like HOLLYWOOD HOUSEWIFE for book recommendations. Just find what works for you and move on.

Thanks for the feedback, Amanda. I think it’s great to get it when it’s truly constructive, so appreciate you taking the time to share. Hope you find something you can relate to in my next few posts, but if not, I totally get that, too. And thanks for reading up to this point, nonetheless.

Hm, I’m not sure what to say about some of the previous comments, except to say that I’m sorry, R. No one deserves scathing comments. Don’t like what you’re reading, scroll down your reader.
Anyway, just wanted to congratulate you on the FOAM mention and HuffPost picking up another one of your articles. It’s all well deserved. I’ve been doing a little catch up and really enjoyed “The Real You” and “Are We Taking Parenting Too Seriously” posts. You’re such a terrific writer, as your accolades prove. I know I don’t need to say this, but keep doing what you’re doing…It’s all good.

You are beyond kind and supportive…as always. xx

Women need to support other women, or leave the premises. I have no idea why someone would read a blog if they hate it so much. Forced to read a blog? I do not think so. Putting yourself out into the world is a vulnerable thing to do. If some of the women above do not like it…you know the classic adage…If you have nothing nice to say….

    Keep on keepin on.
