Must-Haves: My Favorite “Green” Baby Products

If you read my “5 Little Steps to Healthy” post last week, you will know that one of the areas I do pride myself on going green is when it comes to products for my kids. It sparked in the early weeks after having Little D almost six years ago (six!). Without even trying, I suddenly became acutely aware of the chemicals in every little thing that touched her body – and would touch her body for decades to come – and made an easy commitment to opting for the all-natural route whenever I could. Again, if you know me from this blog or in real-life, you know I am simply not an “all or nothing” kind of gal. So yes, both my kids wore disposable diapers and yes, there are times when we use Coppertone sunscreen if we don’t have the natural one handy. But I truly try to shop natural when it comes to most of their necessities and these are my faves (not a sponsored post in any way, I buy and happily pay for all of the below):

Clockwise from top left:

California Baby Calming Bubble Bath, $13.99. I am not going to lie, it can be really tough to pay $14 for bubble bath when there is a $4 option right next to it. But this go-to delivers with a lovely lavender fragrance and bubbles galore. You will see that “calming” products are a staple around here — wishful thinking and all 😉

The Honest Company Hand Sanitizer, $6.95. I have tried a few products from Honest and I think this is my favorite. It is gel-like, which takes some getting used to, but has a really sweet scent and I love their packaging. I keep one in the car and one in my purse for easy germ-killing on the go.

Babyganics Bubble Bath and Body Wash, $9.10. So this is a slightly less expensive lavendar bubble bath option but the truth is, it doesn’t feel quite as concentrated as the California Baby so we use it as a body wash more than anything. I really like Babyganics, overall. It was started by two dads and offers a plethora of products at relatively affordable prices.

Burt’s Bees Diaper Ointment, $7. When a friend has a new baby I like to send a box of my favorite products and this is a MUST-HAVE. My husband and I are convinced it’s a miracle cream, it instantly clears up any rash, spots or irritation with a fresh, eucalyptus-y fragrance.

Burt’s Bees Dusting Powder, $6. Another BB staple. I was alarmed when I read about the garbage in good ol’ baby powder and it was one of the first things I tossed immediately after having D. This talc-free dusting powder (how cute is that? dusting powder!) is a great, affordable alternative that will keep your baby’s bum dry and delicious. And I love Burt’s Bees because it’s not crazy expensive and easy to find…i.e. at Target.

Tom’s of Maine Children’s Toothpaste, $3.69. Why oh why oh why do kids’ dentists insist on giving out tubes of sugar-y neon blue Crest?? This TOM paste has been a staple in our house since Little D started to brush and she was totally fine with it…until the dentist introduced her to the sparkly stuff. So now it’s a bit of a battle when we’re shopping and she sees Crest tubes covered in Disney characters and the like. But we have stuck to our gums (I mean guns, ha ha) and will continue to do so!

Aura Cacia Cheering Foam Bath, $3.29. On the odd occasion that I want to give my kids a break from the lavender, I opt for this Aura Cacia foaming bath. I bought these on a whim at Sprouts one day because they come in these cute little pouches for a couple of bucks and have continued to use them. My kids love this happy dolphin cheering one and I love the clearing one that is loaded up with eucalyptus for when they are sick.

Little Twig Bodymilk, $11.49. Little Twig was one of the first natural lines I fell for and it was initially purely based on their cute packaging. I mean, look at it. So cute. And of course, I opt for the lavender body lotion for that extra (all together now) calming effect!

Babyganics All-Purpose Wipes, $8.10. And finally, surface wipes. What I am putting in my kids’ environment is just as important as what goes on their skin, so we opt for natural cleaning products (mainly Method for the home) and these surface wipes were a godsend in the nursery and playroom. While they’re busy playing, you can be busy cleaning and feeling good about it at the same time.

And for those of you who may not know, the company behind Diapers.com launched VINE.com a few months back to make it easier than ever for us to shop healthy and green for our little families.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I am off to find a new kids’ dentist… 😉

Love CA Baby too…I’ll have to check out the Burt’s dusting powder!! SO unbelievable the crap in Johnsons and Johnsons…I try to go natural too, but certainly guilty of falling off the wagon here and there. Diapers.com is amazing for next day delivery of a wide assortment of organic baby stuff!
