Must-Haves – New at J. Crew

J. Crew is one of the few catalogs I receive that I flip through like a magazine. My wardrobe isn’t totally packed with their wares, but I have a few great pieces from them that I adore and I always love to see what’s peeking out from their newest pages. Here are my favorite finds from the new January 2013 Style Guide:

(above) Minnie pant in stretch twill, $89.50. Love the idea of a skinny pant that isn’t a jean for Spring and beyond. This Minnie style also apparently boasts a “holds-you-in stretch fabric” — who doesn’t like a little of that?

Voile skirt in stripe, $128. I really like the bold color on this simple striped skirt, it perks up the preppy volume just the right amount. I don’t actually love how it’s styled here but can see it taking me from a meeting to morning coffee with a girlfriend paired with a simple tank or tee.

Schoolboy blazer, $158. I can’t believe I still don’t own one of these blazers. I eye them every time I am in a J. Crew store, I ogle over them in the catalog, I wear blazers ALL THE TIME. This might just be the season to add this shrunken little gem into my wardrobe.

Boyfriend fatigue jacket, $168. I miss the seasons all the time and that’s partially because I love coats and jackets. When I lived in Montreal, I prided myself on finding a warm, but stylish new one every year that I could bury myself into without killing my sense of style. This slightly baggy boyfriend fatigue jacket looks like a dream come true for a chilly, drizzly Southern California day. Note: the color on this photo from their web site seems off compared to what they show in catalog, it looks much more army green there, which I prefer.

Ring tank, $118. Can I just say that thanks to my The Dailey Method regimen I am kind of sort of maybe looking forward to bathing suit season – for the first time in like 10 years?!? And this little number is helping matters. I love this color, “Rich Peacock”, the timeless shape, the fact that there are straps you can use for stability when you’re in mommy mode…and even moreso that they can be removed for minimal tan lines when you’re not.

The pants and jacket are definitely calling my name. Think I might have to go make a trip to South Coast!

Yes! Isn’t it awesome! I mean, I am definitely not there yet (like you, mama!) but I see a light at the end of the tunnel, for sure.

Do you attend classes, or use the video? I’m intrigued, but there’s no studio near me.

At Dailey Method? I go to classes. I am not sure I could get the same results from the DVD, but I am the type who needs A LOT of motivation. If you can commit to the DVD, I am sure you would love it!
