Five Handbags Every Mama Should Own
I am a handbag girl.
Some girls spend all their money on shoes. Some spend it all on jewelry. I spend it on handbags.
I truly believe every one I add to my collection is an investment piece of some kind.
So consider this financial planning advice à la WhatWouldGwynethDo…the five handbags every mama should own:
A cross body bag. Let’s face it, with two kids, a ringing iPhone and groceries in tow, a woman needs a free hand…and preferably, two. My cross body bag was something I told myself I “had to have” once I had Kai. Turns out, I may have to have more than one. A casual tote to lug around everything from wipes to library books to a change of flats. I love casual totes in nylon fabrics that can handle spills, days in the sand and serious cargo and used something similar as a defacto diaper bag with both kids. Let me tell you right now how over-rated all those compartments for bottles and binkies are…you need something big and sturdy. C’est tout. (L) FEED 1 Bag (R) Longchamp Le Pliage
A chic clutch. Ok, we may not be hitting the town as much as we used to, but when we do, we don’t want a big old diaper bag style tote hanging off our shoulder. A petite clutch helps you edit down to the essentials for an evening out. Mine usually carries my phone, ID, credit card and lipstick, and I love the ones with a little wrist strap so you can carry your drink without the balancing act…we do enough of that at home, wouldn’t you say?? Something structured. I love a beautiful structured handbag for special occasions, a bridal shower for a friend, an important work meeting. Nothing screams sophistication like a posh purse on a particularly important outing. And don’t be afraid to opt for an out-of-the-box shade like blue or orange. The shape and style is so classic, you can get away with a playful hue and it will still last forever in your wardrobe. (L) Prada Saffiano (R) Tory Burch Robinson Satchel
Finally, what I call a casual day bag. This falls somewhere in between the casual tote and the structured bag, and will be your go-to more than any other. It’s a bag that can go from pick-up at preschool to a perfectly polished luncheon, perking up any outfit from casual to chic. My Gucci Sukey was one of the first bags I invested in and its slouchy hobo shape and rich leather finish has never let me down. Now that’s what I call a sound investment.
