Hair Today…Bangs Tomorrow?

Sometimes life really likes to screw with you, doesn’t it?

I was all set with my semi-annual haircut plan: I let my bangs grow out for the hot, sticky, saltwater-infused summer months and then I chop them again come fall, for a new look for the new season.

Fall is coming, so bringing back the bangs was on the agenda.

Then I started to Pin my way down a hair trends rabbit hole – one that didn’t show bangs at all but rather lush, rich dark wavy locks that suddenly seem smart, sexy and simple all at once.

Maybe it’s time to banish the bangs and focus on color and curl for the new season instead?

Disclaimer: my hair (as apparently everyone’s does) has a natural stop growth point that is nowhere near Kardashian territory so most of these looks would be a few inches on the shorter front if I tried them. But I am loving the chocolate tones and simple-ish waves and skipping the whole blow drying my bangs every day for six months thing does sound kind of lovely…

Do you change your hair up with the seasons or do you love the same look all year long?

My hair has the same boring look all year long. I do get a lot of compliments on my hair, but it is very boring to me. I’m just a low maintenance hair person. It is long with a natural curl. I didn’t like the way my hair made my face look the other day and I considered going back to bangs or a side swoop, but now after seeing your photos (which is kind of what my hair looks like) I’m not sure if I should change it. Then again, your pinned photos consist of girl’s with gorgeous faces so they could have almost any cut and look good.

I’m periodically looking for a change, but then I change (as in, cut it short(er)), and I walk in after the chop and our nanny gasps (and not in a good way). Then I grow it back out and am happy with long locks again.

I’m always more drawn to the “dark flowing locks” ideal, so I’ve avoided bangs since high school…but I made my husband watch the last season of New Girl with me, and now he’s hinting that he thinks they’re sexy, haha. Part of me wants to dive in, but he might take it back once he realizes all the extra maintenance that goes with them! 🙂

I’m like a chameleon. When I have the time, I like to change. I’m going back to brown at my next appointment. I forgot highlighting your hair changes the texture to something similar to a straw broom.

Grow the bangs! (Partly because I’m growing mine out too and we can commiserate together.)

I always love changing my look with the seasons. Your inspiration photos are great..long dark tresses are perfect for Fall/Winter.

grrr…i have a hair appt for september 12th and the battle in my head is growing fiercer by the day…bangs or no bangs. then i stumbled across your post. i think i’m going to NOT cut bangs this fall! thanks WWGD for providing guidance in this most important decision!

Oh, I’m in the same spot! I cut Birkin bangs with a long straight style (achieved via Bumble smoothing/straightening treatment for my naturally-wavy hair) in fall 2011, then grew out the bangs, then cut them again in March 2012 with a slightly shorter version of the fall 2011 cut (but this time I hated the B&B treatment and couldn’t wait to have my natural texture back). I have only had trims since. I have been wearing my bangs very long and side-swept since late spring, and I go back and forth. I like the ease of pinning them back, but with my long hair, when I see photos I know that a side part with some of the long bang or hair covering my forehead is more flattering. With bangs, I think either side-swept or something much longer on the sides than in the middle is better than a blunt, straight-across bang. I have to say, it hadn’t really occurred to me to treat them as seasonal: cut them in September; grow them in March. I’m always afraid I’ll cut them on the same day the universe announces they are no longer in style, haha. Husband prefers long, all-one-length brown hair with no bangs, so I compromise – I find it easier to style when it’s long (it’s thick and wavy), so I get to do whatever I want with color and fringe, but I keep the length for him.

No bangs for this lady. I have been growing my hair out for the last two years. The second time my boyfriend cut my hair (yes my boyfriend cuts my hair) I told him I wanted face framing bangs. He reminded me that they were high maintenance and would be constantly hanging in my face. So I said, let’s skip the bangs and just trim my ends. Seeing growth, but it takes so long. Mine is nearly to my waist, but my goal is to my hips 🙂
