Making My Monday

2012 August 6

You know when people say “oh, someone has a case of the Mondays…” and you want to scream because that’s pretty much the most annoying saying ever?

Well, sadly, some weeks it just sums it up.

I woke up feeling a little ho-hum today. A little stressed, a little melancholy, a little overwhelmed. But rather than give into it, I decided to call it out.

“I think I am PMSing,” I declared to skater hubs over coffee. “So let’s just put it out there and move on.”

It felt good. Now he knows why I might be overly sensitive or cranky or bitchy today. Now I know why thoughts of insecurity and doubt are invading my mind. And now my body knows why it feels like taking a nap…four times a day.

So now that that’s out of the way, let’s focus on the positive, shall we? Here are five things Making My Monday this week:

I think I got another new writing gig! I don’t want to announce it yet (because I am Romanian and we are superstitious freaks like that) but if it comes together, it will probably be the most high-profile site I have written for to-date. I am so very excited, not only for the opportunity, but because I was truly starting to think that at 34, it was too late to follow my dreams. That I would have to stick to my day job (which I love, in its own way, but it’s not my passion) forever to pay the bills, etc. etc. And truth is, I probably will have to do it forever to pay the bills, but if I can keep writing and having more and more people read it, then dreams do come true…even at 34.

I was invited to a fall fashion preview at Neiman Marcus on Wednesday. Breakfast, bloggers and fall fashion trends? Yes, please.

We are having another Friday night beach picnic this week. I love how much time we have spent at the beach this summer. We even bundled up yesterday morning and went there for breakfast with the kids at like 8am. It’s always shocking to me how many people are out and about at 8am on a Sunday…especially if they don’t have kids in tow. Anyhow, it feels so nice to appreciate our surroundings and truly take advantage of them.

This article “10 Simple Things to Make You Happier at Home” was a fun, enlightening read and I am planning to make sure I have all ten boxes checked this week.

The lovely Laura from Hollywood Housewife was kind enough to share my piece on marriage for The Conversation today on her Facebook page. I met Laura a while back at a press trip I hosted for a darling hotel in Palm Springs when I was doing their PR and instantly admired her kindness, personal style and success in this crazy blogging world. It’s such an honor to have her recognize one of my pieces — thank you, Laura! xx

Have a great week, everyone! Especially those of you with a case of the Mondays… 😉

So funny (but not really), I woke up sad this morning too. My mom has been here for a visit right when we all really needed her, and maybe I was sad to see her go today. I don’t know. I wish we went to the beach more. We’re close, but not close enough to make it completely accessible. Plus my husband isn’t in love with the beach the way my son and I are, so…I hate to drag him there. Your early morning sounds delightful. And I’m totally envying you your writing gigs! Congratulations. I write for a living but it’s not the writing I love doing, and I wish I had a way to leverage the writing I love somehow.

Wow, I must be down. This comment is filled with all sorts of longing, isn’t it! 😉

Sometimes it just feels better to put it all out there, doesn’t it? Sigh. I also firmly believe in planning something fun for Monday evenings, makes it easier to get through…

Smart woman. My “fun” Monday evening includes edamame, Chinese Chicken Salad and the Olympics. It’ll have to do. Maybe I need to do some shopping for some Mario Badescu!

Last Monday, I was miserable. Cranky, hungry, whiny, overwhelmed and just a grump. By Thursday I realized it had been PMS, but that didn’t erase what a miserable day I had. Thankfully it didn’t last!
If it cheers you up, I discovered your blog from Hollywood Housewife’s link on fb and loved what you wrote, and from what I’ve read on your blog so far, you can know that you have a new fan!

Hope this day passes quickly. My rough day is Tuesday – I think they just flat out suck.
