The Year of Them

2012 January 2
by WWGD

One of my favorite Christmas presents, from my sister, now perched on my desk as a constant reminder.

Well happy 2012 to you, too.

This holiday season was a whirlwind. I was the holiday-zilla, I will admit it. After the heartache and sadness of Christmas 2010, my only priority was making this year as merry as possible, and with a lot of immune defense drops, an overheated AmEx and more than a few bottles of Veuve Cliquot, it all came together quite nicely…

It was almost too lovely as coming back to real-life this morning has been nothing but painful.

But the one thing that has energized me is all this talk of resolutions, change and hope. A new year, a fresh perspective. Even if it only lasts a week, who doesn’t need their annual dose?

This year, rather than resolve to eat more, exercise less…oops, I mean eat less, exercise more, I am focusing on making every decision and move to better my family. Seems obvious that they would be my priority, right? But I am willing to bet that I can put in an even more conscious effort to make choices that improve our lives even further in 2012.

Such as?

Work less.

Save more.

Vacation more (may be tough with the whole working less thing, but we’ll get creative).

Log off more.

See more doctors.

Open the windows a little wider.

Write more.

Drive slower.

Shop a little smarter.

Get dirty more.

Go out without the kids more.

Talk less about the kids when we are out without them.

Make plans.

Watch my language.

Realize that I have an audience 24/7 and what they see isn’t always a five-star review.

Etc. etc.

It’s a lot to think about but I have a feeling that if I look at my day-to-day and the moves I make, this is one resolution that will last past the end of this week.

And if and when it doesn’t, I am sure there will be plenty of Veuve Cliquot to get me back on track.

Absolutely. And all those little choices you make – both for them and for you – that add up to so much. Thanks for reading!

Love all of these goals. Log off and get dirty are huge for me. I think my husband and I need to institute some sort of “check your iphone at the front door” kind of rule bc we are INSANE. My poor almost feral kid.

As for get dirty: I need to get dirty with my daughter more often, and more importantly for myself! If I log off I’ll have more time to paint again, do printmaking, all the things I miss doing.

    Happy New Year to you!
